Archive Notes
Artifact 002.01 is a rounded beach stone recovered from Casco Bay in summer 2011 by a mutual friend of Derek Hoffman and the man whose story later became Signal 002. The 2026 photograph was made by Derek.
The contrasting surface region appears natural. No carving, paint, or deliberate application is visible in the current photographic record. Differential weathering, mineral variation, fracture, and erosion are sufficient starting explanations for an irregular shape.
WTS A.2 / Recognition note. The outline is familiar to me. That is not evidence of anything except recognition, and recognition is especially vulnerable to suggestion. I am therefore withholding the comparison that produced the response until the object's geometry can be traced and evaluated blind. For now, the important fact is simpler: an ordinary stone has made me suspicious of my own memory, which is exactly when procedure matters most.

I know this shape. That is precisely why I do not trust myself with it yet.

“I've turned this stone over more times than I'd normally admit to. I don't have a comparison yet I'm willing to put in the record. I have a stone, and a feeling I don't like having about a stone.”
