The Mirror Home is the remote collaboration of Derek Hoffman and Mei Ting: two people shaping words, music, performance, and technology into songs that are sometimes deliberately difficult to classify.
Project Record
The Mirror Home is the remote, genre-hopping project of Derek Hoffman and Mei Ting, built through late-night file sharing, Zoom calls, and the occasional heroic attempt to explain a song idea over a bad connection.
Derek handles guitars, drums, piano, spoken word, and the ongoing wish that he could sing. Mei brings bass, violin, additional guitars, and vocals, grounding the songs with melody, atmosphere, and edge. Together, they write the lyrics and shape the music, using AI as a production tool and, when needed, as the male vocalist Derek’s vocal cords refuse to become.
The project moves between alternative rock, Americana, industrial, blues, electronic music, spoken word, folk, and cinematic textures. The sound changes because the subject changes: an intimate memory should not be forced through the same frame as a cyberpunk firefight or a joke about a beard.

Instruments and responsibilities overlap. Every finished song is shaped through shared revision, selection, and judgment.

Derek builds the instrumental frame, works the language until it carries the idea, and continues the ongoing wish that he could sing.

Mei grounds the work with melody, texture, and edge, helping each Signal find the emotional shape it needs.

Production Note
The lyrics, concepts, arrangements, performances, revisions, and final choices are created and directed by Derek and Mei. AI is used as a production instrument: to test possibilities, render selected arrangements, and provide a male singing voice when a song requires one.
