The Mirror Home is the remote, genre-hopping project of Derek Hoffman and Mei Ting. Working through shared files and late-night Zoom calls, they combine human songwriting and live instrumentation with AI-assisted production to make songs that move between alternative rock, Americana, blues, industrial music, folk, spoken word, and cinematic textures.
Extended biography
The Mirror Home is the remote, genre-hopping project of Derek Hoffman and Mei Ting, built through late-night file sharing, Zoom calls, and the occasional heroic attempt to explain a song idea over a bad connection.
Derek handles guitars, drums, piano, spoken word, and the ongoing wish that he could sing. Mei brings bass, violin, additional guitars, and vocals, grounding the songs with melody, atmosphere, and edge. Together, they write the lyrics and shape the music, using AI as a production tool and, when needed, as the male vocalist Derek’s vocal cords refuse to become.
The Mirror Home pulls from alternative rock, Americana, industrial, blues, electronic music, spoken word, folk, and cinematic soundtrack textures. Their songs move between the intimate, the haunted, the explosive, and the gloriously sideways—because sometimes the Signal is a dark confession, and sometimes it is about beards, bad dating profiles, or being the fly.
Signal 001 Current Release
A song about first love, the moment we step into another life, and the wisdom that arrives only after time has carried us far enough to understand both. “Light I Couldn't Hold” is the first released Signal from The Mirror Home.

Derek and Mei develop the concepts, write and revise the lyrics, shape arrangements, perform instrumental and vocal material, select takes, and make the final creative decisions.
AI is used as a production instrument to explore arrangements, render selected performances, and provide a male singing voice when required. The project identifies that role openly because the distinction between authorship, performance, production, and curation matters.
