01

Short biography

The Mirror Home is Derek Hoffman and Mei Ting, writing and recording remotely and refusing to pick a genre. Shared files, late-night calls, and AI-assisted production come together into songs that move between alternative rock, Americana, blues, industrial, folk, spoken word, and cinematic textures.

02

Extended biography

The Mirror Home is Derek Hoffman and Mei Ting: two people, two time zones' worth of scheduling problems, and one shared folder.

Derek plays guitars, drums, and piano, writes spoken word, and is still hoping the singing thing works out. Mei brings bass, violin, extra guitars, and vocals, and keeps the songs grounded in melody and atmosphere. They write the lyrics and shape the arrangements together, and use AI as a production tool — including, when it's called for, the male vocal Derek's voice can't quite deliver.

Their catalog runs from intimate to haunted to explosive to fully sideways — because sometimes the song is a confession, and sometimes it's about beards, bad dating profiles, or being the fly.

Sound Record

No fixed genre. Recurring fingerprints.

The subject determines the form. These descriptors identify qualities that recur even when the instrumentation and genre change.

01

Lyric-first

The subject and language are established before a final genre or production frame is selected.

02

Cinematic

Songs are built as scenes, transmissions, memories, arguments, or fragments of a larger world.

03

Genre-fluid

Alternative rock, Americana, industrial, blues, electronic, folk, and spoken word are treated as materials.

04

Human-edited

Every preserved arrangement and performance is selected, revised, and approved by the project.

05

Remote

The collaboration moves through shared files, calls, instrumental recordings, and repeated passes.

06

Restless

The catalog makes room for grief, satire, speculative fiction, politics, memory, and absurdity.

Production Disclosure

Human authorship. Assisted production.

Derek and Mei write the lyrics, build the arrangements, perform the instrumental and vocal parts, and make every final call on what gets released. AI is part of the production process — used to test ideas, render takes, and provide the male vocal on songs that need one. We're upfront about that because the line between "who wrote this" and "what helped finish it" actually matters to us.
