The Mirror Home is the remote, genre-hopping project of Derek
Hoffman and Mei Ting, built through late-night file sharing, Zoom
calls, and the occasional heroic attempt to explain a song idea
over a bad connection.
Derek handles guitars, drums, piano, spoken word, and the ongoing
wish that he could sing. Mei brings bass, violin, additional guitars,
and vocals, grounding the songs with melody, atmosphere, and edge. Together,
they write the lyrics and shape the music, using AI as a production
tool and, when needed, as the male vocalist Derek’s vocal cords
refuse to become.
The Mirror Home pulls from alternative rock, Americana, industrial,
blues, electronic music, spoken word, folk, and cinematic soundtrack
textures. Their songs move between the intimate, the haunted, the
explosive, and the gloriously sideways—because sometimes the Signal
is a dark confession, and sometimes it is about beards, bad dating
profiles, or being the fly.
